Mark was brought up in Western Southland where he started potting with the Otautau Potters’ Club.
His work is all hand-built using a coil-and-pinch technique and then raku-fired. He is mainly concerned with form, volume and texture and enjoys the unpredictability of raku and post-firing reduction effects.
His pottery is influenced from a wide variety of sources including ceramics, sculpture, science fiction, and the natural world; bones, shells, driftwood, stones. He aims to produce meaningful pieces: quiet, pleasing, contemplative objects that others may enjoy.
